Symbionic Titan

Ok, so evidently there's a new show on Cartoon Network about three people who come to earth from an alien planet...two guys who are supposed to protect a "princess". And they can turn into robots...

Anyhoo, someone on Deviant Art called my attention to this show, so I thought I'd investigate. Do any of the characters seem....oddly familiar to you???

Here are the artist's comparisons...too funny!

Who's the stud?

Bwah! My clone!

Nice Hair!

Now watch the video clip...

Symbionic Titans

Heh, that guy Lance does look an awful lot like the Eagle! His voice even sounds a like a cross between ADV Ken and Mark. And the girl is a "Princess"...

Neat clip -it reminds me of that parkour chase scene in the "Casino Royale" Bond movie, only times ten.

Looks like a fun cartoon!

That is so cool about the B of the P reference. I was watching with my kids this morning and there's no doubt that Lance's father looks just like Chief Anderson, giggle. I don't know how to link up to pictures like you did for everyone to see, but if you get the chance, check it out. Smile

My son and I watch it and I noticed the same thing, including the armless glasses. But Lance's attitude is more G-2.

Becky: I was thinking the same thing that Lance was a combo between G-1's looks and G-2's attitude. Of course he did have the Daddy complex thing going for him too. Smile How old is your son? Mine is 8 and loves this new show. Smile

Somehow, it slipped my mind to link to this interview where the creator, Genndy Tartakovsky mentions his influences including Battle of the Planets.

TZN: What were the TV shows or movies that inspired Sym-Bionic Titan the most?

GENNDY TARTAKOVSKY: Well, what hasn't inspired Titan? Mainly, I think the two biggest influences have been John Hughes movies (Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, etc) and G-Force/Battle of the Planets. The character visual style is a mixed bag of goodies. Speed Racer, Astro Boy, the Fleischer Bros., and other Osamu Tezuka manga. The robots were designed by Paul Rudish and I think there’s always a Shogun Warrior aspect but for this project we were inspired by Micronauts (the toy line and not so much the comic book). I'm sure Paul has extra hidden influences that he keeps all to himself!!

Anyway's, it's a pretty awesome show. Like its two predacessors, Samurai Jack and the SW Clone Wars Miniseries (NOT the CG series running right now) it's got some dazzling visuals and flair to it.

I was just catching up with the series on my DVR, and yeah Lance's father is MOST definitely Nambu. Wish I could provide a screenshot.

I didn't realize it was Genndy Tartakovsky who made this -I always though Samurai Jack was cool. I even liked Dexter's Laboratory.
It's neat that he specifically names "G-Force/Battle of the Planets" as an influence -the similarities are not just our imagination then!

I've tried to make a habit of watching it with my son every Sat morning. He really loves it. Smile Nice to see the G-Force and Battle of the Planets influence. Fun show trying to pick out the similarities. Smile
