Dr. Nambu needs your help!
I mean seriously. He's been wearing the same powder blue jacket, burgundy vest and yellow shirt for three series!
How would you dress Dr. Nambu? Give him a new style!

I'd like to see him in a proper suit, looking sharp. I'd keep the glasses, with arms, rather than no glasses, but smaller frames of course.

Depending on his actual skin tones, he could wear a dark blue suit (about the color of his trousers, or darker), with a pale blue or white shirt, and the blue tie. Might lose the waistcoat, or keep it, either blue or maroon. Otherwise, dark brown suit, in a hue that would complement that shirt of his, and either no waistcoat or dark brown one.
(Anyone who's read my AU knows I rank on his wardrobe -- or lack thereof -- a couple of times.)
The glasses are totally 1970s. My father wore similar frames (but with temples). They aren't too bad, really. Still, there are some modern styles he could wear. But I would not give him those stupid trendy glasses that are barely the size of his eyes. We want something that would stand up over time.
BTW, I paid attention: except for a couple of errors around and in the Kamisoral episode, the good doctor's eyes are consistently depicted as dark, and dark grey (perhaps standing in for black?) in close-up. Someone corrected them to brown in The Ghostly Grasshopper.

Hmmm...maybe he should lose the Tom Selleck moustache...
If I remember correctly, LB used PS to remove his 'stache once...and he looked TOTALLY different...

That moustache makes him look older, which is important given that he's supposed to be controlling these 5 highly-trained kids. He needs all the help he can get. And I happen to think he looks great with it.

:giggle: I agree with you, UW! I think Nambu/Anderson looks good with a moustache. But maybe if it wasn't so, um, fluffy?
I always thought he'd look good in a dark charcoal gray with a very light pinstripe, double breasted, with a matching waistcoat/vest. Could still use the dark red tie. In the summer, the yellow shirt could probably be paired with it, too.
The armless glasses never really bothered me; I just could never understand how he could keep them balanced on his nose without them falling off every time he looked down! He could probably get away with a nice tortoiseshell frame, though ...

I have no idea who this is (some celeb I guess) but I thnk this look would be great for Nambu!
And LB did an awesome job re-imagining Dr. Nambu! She took off the glasses, mustache and sideburns... and he was hot!
Darn it, I can't find the pictures!!!! I think LB put them as attachments and they're not showing up in the Nambu thread.... Please repost, LB!

I couldn't find her pic, either...but I managed to do a quick Nambu makeover on PS myself...

That's so cool Springie, he looks totally different. And so much younger, no wonder he wears the mustache. Awesome picture. I like the suit too.

Trying to give him a look a bit more akin to the Team's civvies, but still with a jacket to keep it more serious, and all-neutral colours to differentiate him...
I agree with UW in saying that the moustache fits Dr. Nambu, making him look appropriately old for his kind of rank. Some might deem it strange, but I, too, happen to think that, apart from his clothing, he is quite attractive! And, even more after I've seen all the great makeovers!
I would definitely eliminate his gilet, and substitute his suit with other ones (with an emphasis on "ones" as a plural!) in darker colours. I also would still leave him wearing a matching shirt, and tie, due to his kind of work, and the image he has to portray, making him change in more casual clothing when most opportune ... much like LB's choice of casual, but serious, look!
But, now that I'm thinking, it's only now that I find his clothing not that up to standard! When I used to watch Gatchaman, as a child, I didn't find what he wore strange! Of course, I was just a girl, and perhaps not yet into fashion, or, perhaps, at those times, his style did not look that awkward since fashion was much the same! Or, maybe, I still thought that a jacket in a very light colour, almost similar to the white one worn by Crocket in Miami Vice, was quite cool!

The doc wore the same clothes for the same reason the team did: easier to animate. If you can whip out already-drawn cels of series or recurring characters, that saves time and labor for the episode-specific animation (such as the CotW or mecha).

I just wish they had updated the Doctor between series, as they did for the Team! Springie and LB, your makeovers are great!
LB, The one I was looking for was the one you did where you took the pic from the Time Bokan... where he was slurping up a noodle, and then you adjusted that! IMHO, that was your best 'makeover' of all!

I agree with MD on the glasses and UW on the mustache. The changes I'd make would be simple and practical (I hope).
Pants: a dark blue cotton (Khaki style) or maybe just regular Khakis.
Shirt: similar to what he's got now only light blue, top button unbuttoned, unless given a tie.
Coat: a lab coat for the times that we actually see him in the lab; a dark blue sports coat for the others (the dark blue would go well with either pants)
Vest: Lose it! No ascots either! If something is needed here, give him a medium width tie (not too wide, not too slim) in dark blue. Personally, I'd go without a tie.

Thanks for posting those again, LB!

A suit for those times he has to be Mr. I-lead-the-Mantle-Project-and-the-team. Lab coat for in the lab. Since we almost never see him anywhere else (at least in the first series), it would be quite a surprise to see him wearing any other clothing.

Yeah, I agree with TJ, thanks for posting them again, I never got to see them the first time around. Those shots are amazing.
