Joes shower scene
I know this has been discussed at other sites, and maybe even here at some point. Still I don't think I've givin my thoughts on it. Feel free to add you own.
While some might say his shower scene was just eye candy (which I must agree that did help) I have to say that in my thoughts it also has to deal with showing the audiance another depth of things. With Joe standing in the shower, water pouring over him, it's almost like he's trying to rid his soul of the killing and other moral questionable things the team is forced to do while fighting for what they and others feel is right. Not saying it isn't right to defend, but still blood on your hands is still blood, and most likely a humans.

The OVA Joe.
Well, if his character was more developed, I could see that more easily. It's a hint that's never expanded. Who gave him that friendship bracelet? Why does he wear it? Why does it vanish at the end?
And you have to admit that the scene is also fanservice.

You know, that shower is really huge. I mean, he lives in a trailer and it looks like the shower takes up half the space!
But GG, I like the theory you have there. That would make a great scene in a fic, describing those feelings.

I love the way you think about that scene, GG! I also agree with TJ regarding the dimensions of the shower in the trailer, and, with UW, that the OVA scene must surely have been put in solely for fanservice, or the extra drool! ... anyone who could have watched the OVAs for the first time, without having ever watched Gatchaman, and, thus, could not have known what Gatchaman was all about, together with the story behind all the characters, surely could not have had any other feedback from the shower scene other than that of just Joe, the hunk, under the shower!
Linked to the above, and showing how I too see the "shower scene" as more than just eye candy, the following is a humble extract from my "Rain after the Storm" fic, with which I've solved the problem of the shower's dimensions, and have attributed a significance to a similar scene, using it in a sequel! Although I didn't make a lot of emphasis on the hunk, one could be free to imagine what he/she likes!:-
"At the first light of dawn, Joe sprung out of his bed, still dressed in the civvies that he had been wearing from the other day. He made his way straight to the shower, which was conveniently found in the ensuite bathroom, taking his shirt off as he was doing so. He had to admit that the Science Ninja Team’s sleeping quarters at the ISO Space Centre were very comfortable and luxurious, even though they lacked even minimal décor. Despite all this, the Condor was still missing his old trailer. For him, it was still not the right time to move and leave everything behind. He still had to stick around until all of the pending matters were resolved, once and for all.
He took off his trousers and his underwear, leaving them in a bundle on the floor on top of his t-shirt, stepped into the cubicle and closed the sliding, glass door behind. A jet of warm water soon soaked his body from head to toe. He left it gushing down incessantly over him for a long while, as if he wanted it to wash away all his troubles and all the scars that had remained apparent after the injuries of his last battle. When he finally turned off the water, he opened the glass door, now opaque with steam, left it ajar and grabbed a large towel from the adjacent, chrome rail."

not a bad link yul... thanks
GM, your explanation and creative images your scene describes is well written.
Thank you TJ, though I see GM has that covered pretty much.

What an appropriate except, GM! I had forgotten about the scene (Obviously I must be going insane if I could have forgotten about *that*!) and it's a lovely reminder, fitting in so well with this thread!

I agree, GG. I've long thought that the benefit of a shower is as much psychological as hygenic, refreshing and cleansing the mind as much as the body -more so than a bath, as everything is swept away down the shower's drain...
Gatchamarie, I'd love to see your scene animated! Especially as I don't care so much for the appearance of Joe in the OAV (though the shower scene is his best look, I think -no denying the "eye candy" element!).
OAV Joe would be bearable if his expression changed. Original Joe did crack the occasional smile.

Well don't forget, in the original series there's a Ryu shower scene! And also a scene where Jinpei has clearly come from the shower, wearing nothing but a towel 'round his waist.
And for the guys, there's the fourteen year old Maria shower scene.

Yes, I agree, a Ken, Joe or Jun shower scene certainly would have been more memorable. But for those three, we got to see them shirtless in bed (or in Jun's case, a skimpy nighite).
