Favorite Captain of the Week

I thought it might be fun to have a 'favorites week'. So to get us started, name some of your favorite mecha captains! I think Dr. FInger is notable, being as he appeared to be more intelligent than Katse, and certainly more loyal to his men.

Captain Plungerhead had one of the funniest costumes. And then there's the guy with the big, bushy tail in the OAVs...

I think if I had to pick a favorite, it would be when Katse in female form takes that position.

I am not sure if I could pick a "favourite" captain. They all have their own reason for being special or for standing out in my mind.

Some memorable ones - How about the one eyed cyclops captain or the mole captain

That would be my same choice! Plus someone we all know well who disguised himself as a CotW!!!Luvu2

I rather enjoyed the poodle captain from the lethal flowers episodes. Or was he a sheep?

He looked more like a bat (and that he'd been rejected from a gay pride parade).

Or is there a Gatch II or Fighter episode with a poodle captain?

Hell, I don't remember a poodle (or sheep) captain. (Although there was a mecha in the 'One Sentence at at Time' IF with a poodle captain.)

D'oh! It's been so long since I saw the eps, and the dvds are up in the loft where I can't get them to check. I thought it was the flowers ep though, at the start where they are dropping the fluffy seeds from the galactor craft, and there is this captain in a ridiculous fluffy suit.

I will accept that I may have dreamed it, or associated it with the wrong ep.

I dont recall a fluffy suit... now I'm wondering if anyone has a picture!

Marie, you make a good point about that 'disguised' CotW... Wink

I just found a pic of the captain from the flowers ep, and he is not a poodle but some kind of mutant, long chinned bat as UW said. Am I going mad? Is there really no poodle captain?

Did you see the OVA? One of the captains wears (if I recall correctly) what looks like furry overalls with a fox-like tail (and a fish-looking mask). Perhaps you're remembering the silly fox-tail overalls?

No, I'm not thinking of the oav captain. As I said, I could have dreamed it. I even remember him being slighly pink, with dangly pom-pom ears. If he exists, he will be a Gatch 1 captain, not 2 or 3, because in my mind he isn't drawn in the right style for the later series. That is, if he exists.

I am wondering if you might mean the guy from eps 13. I can't see his "ears" to see if he has pompoms on them, in the image I am looking at but he does have the dangling things.

BTW it has taken me a while but I finally found this site, created by one of our members, Cricket. I hope she does not mind me mentioning it.

I actually went back and checked TJ review of eps 13 - she calls the guy a limp eared rabbit with ear rings so probably not the same Captain as you are thinking about Meridian.

Here are a couple of images. I hope this works.

No pom-poms on the captain in 13.

Not sure if I have a favorite captain. They're all interesting.

I agree that Plungerhead is the funniest one. He has to be the one mentioned a couple of times in the commentaries, since his hair looks like it came out of the old 'Bozo the Clown' cartoons (the 'Bozo wig' in the commentaries) and his mask does look like it might have fallen out of another anime series.

Dorkiest-looking are the captains in the 'Evil Aurora Operation' and 'Jigokiller' episodes.

Any chance you're thinking of the guy from the BOTP episode "Giant Space Bat" (Gatch ep. 60, "Science Ninja Team G-6") ?

Posted by meridianday on 08-09-2010 at 20:34:

That might be him. I'm doubting my memory so much, but he is definitely fluffy and wimpy looking - he's got childbearing hips. Hmm, more than one hermaphodite in Galactor, perhaps?

I think my overall favourite is the guy from episode 78, mostly for having a personality and for engaging in comic relief well with his two goon buddies (in an angsty ep that needs it). I'm always sorry he dies in the end.

For sheer ridiculous appearance, I agree that ep 9's Captain Plungerhead/Bozo takes the cake!

And that Captain Cyclops from ep 36 is up there too!

Plus this guy from ep 26.

This guy from ep 48 (for the two silly yellow balls on his forehead).

And this guy from ep 86.

Now, my other favourites are the COTWs who were interesting because they had back stories (like Dr. Demon) and/or exhibited unusual competence or dedication to their cause.

Dr. Demon from ep 84.

Dr. Finger from ep 90.

And the guy from ep 88.
