Gatchfanfic.com Upgrade

I hope this is the right place to put this.

I'm starting on the Archive software now. The problem is that I cannot put it into maintenance mode while I do this, as I need to be able to get into all parts to test things.

Please do not post any fanfic until this is over. I'll post an announcement when it's finished.

There is good news and bad news with the new update to the Gatchfanfic site. We'll start out with the bad news:

Bad:

* With the new upgrade in the Gallery software the preview thumbnails on the main page became corrupted. I had to use an intermediary program to make it happen, and I'm guessing the problem is that middle bridging program as both the Gallery and the Archive are working just fine.

I will keep checking with the author of the software to see if an update is coming. However, in the meantime, the blocks aren't showing up. Rats.

* The skin of the gallery no longer works with the upgrade. This isn't a big deal. As I get time I'll work on the appearance to match the rest of the site.

Good:

* The series problem (fanfic automatically becoming a part of an open series) appears to have been fixed. At least, according to the tests I've done.

* The login and logout is working better.

* To make up for the lack of artwork thumbnails I have moved the Random Fanfic block to the right side of the main page and increased the number of fanfic that will show. This will give casual browsers more of a chance to see oldies-but-goodies.

* A link to the live chat has been added to the main header on all parts of the site.

If anyone finds a part of the code not working as expected, please let me know so I can look into it.

Posting of fanfic and art may now commence!

Thank you for the update Julieann. I will be sad to see no new artwork appearing on the main page. That is when I know I need to go and make a comment, now I wont know when new work is added.

But I will be happy to see more RAndom Fanfics appearing on the main page. It will give me an even greater chance of finding something new, that I have not come across before.

Please continue to keep us informed when you are able to make further changes.

Just uploaded two images to GatchFanfic...

I like the gallery upgrade, so you can choose the album and upload in the background!

However, having to scroll to the "end of the page" in order to complete entry into the album is a bit of a downer... but one I can live with!

No worries, no hurry, Julieann. I'm glad the update is going well without you having to do a scorched-earth reconfigure. At least, it looks pretty smooth going from the outside! I was puttering around in there last night and aside from the gallery issues you'd pointed out, everything looked clean and was functioning just fine.

With the last update there had been a glitch in the Author Profiles where if there were more than 25 fanfics, the listing didn't didn't have an option to continue to page through the listings.

Tonight I had a chance to sort it out. Multiple pages of listings are now showing up.
