What does X truly look like?

I think most of us feel that the 'big blue bird' used in Gatchaman is just an image, and not what X truly looks like. So what does he look like? Is he the big golden pencil we see moving through space? Or is that just a ship? Is X like the ranbow-colored skull-face used in Gatchaman II? Or maybe he's actually the big blobby tentacle-thing used in Gatchaman F. Or is he something completely different?

What are your ideas?

I've always pictured him looking like the ornithoids in from "Catspaw" of the original Star Trek. His powers seemed similar and the coloring works, too.

Interesting... here's a photo reference for those who don't know what they look like.

I love the blue feathers... how perfect! I had never thought of this... And the mind-flayer-like tentacles would represent X's mental powers... They seem so weeny and weak too, which would explain why X went to an effort to 'disguise' his appearance...

In episode 88, there's a scene I'd forgotten about, where X is talking to Katse, but what he's seeing of Katse is moving multiple images, as if using a kaleidoscope. It made me wonder if that's actually how Leader X sees everything, and if so, what on earth kind of "eyes" he actually has. Ones that are multifaceted, like an insect's, perhaps?

I like that idea that Leader X could also be a puny little thing, using false images of himself to appear grander and more intimidating!

Thanks, TJ. I still haven't figured out pictures here.

LB, interesting point about the eyes. I'll need to rewatch that episode and pay attention to that.

That interesting, LB. I never thought of that as his eyes (although you make a good point, that it could be) but rather the device he was using to 'represent' himself to Katse. It's kind of creepy to think of X as some kind of massive insect, but he does have that attitude, doesn't he? He's the 'queen' in charge, and the individual minions don't matter, as long as the group proceeds toward its goal...

It does make sense considering that many of the mecha's are insects.

X as bug.

Great. Now I'm thinking of those things off "Independence Day". In a big test tube. With Giant Blue Chicken faces.

Funny, I was thinking more along the lines of Starship Troopers.

Maybe it's because I really liked 'Independence Day".

OTOH, I read "Starship Troopers". The movie was a travesty in comparision.

But still, the critters from either with blue chicken faces... Freak1

I've always had that idea in mind! I somewhat think of him as a kind of self-reproductive, extraterrestrial intelligent microorganism, not knowing exactly what his real form might have been! As clearly depicted in Gatch F, X or Z had the capability of exploiting his immense powers in order to project a grander image of himself! I like to compare this attitude with that of the Wizard of Oz, who used smoke and mirrors as a sort of routine to build up his powers beyond what they truly were! In the last episode of Gatch F, Ken, before giving Sosai Z the last blow, shouted out in rage that he couldn't believe that they were almost defeated by that puny particle in front of him!

Well, by Gatch F, Leader X had been through the ringer. He/It would not look much like the original.

Very true. We know for certain that the red fragment left of Leader X after Gatchaman II was still a powerful mind in its own right.

That's it! He's a flatworm or something similar. Cut him in half and you've got two worms instead of one. The fragment at the end of II being just large enough to regenerate.
