KITT on Ebay

So it's not the G2, but what a car to own. It'd be even better if it really did have all the snazzy extras, I'd love a car that could get on with the driving while I sat back to enjoy the scenery...

Knight Rider car is up for auction

KITT, the talking car that every 1980s child dreamed of one day owning, will be up for sale in an internet auction this week.

The souped-up 1983 black Pontiac Trans Am from the TV series Knight Rider is expected to fetch between £22,000 and £33,000 when it is sold on auction site eBay.

The sale begins on Friday, with bidders hoping to get their hands on the car driven by Michael Knight - aka David Hasselhoff - once known as the "young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless in a world of criminals who operate above the law".

Hasselhoff, who is currently starring in the West End version of the musical Chicago, teamed up with KITT which was famous for its posh accent, sensible advice and Turbo Boost.

Earlier today, KITT was voted Britain's second most favourite on-screen vehicle in a Yahoo! search survey.

It was beaten by the Lotus Esprit from the James Bond classic The Spy Who Loved Me, but trumped the DeLorean from Back To The Future, the Batmobile and the Minis featured in The Italian Job.

KITT - full name, Knight Industry Two Thousand - is on sale as part of a wider auction of showbiz paraphernalia.

Among the other lots are scripts from the Star Trek series and the Rocky films.

Marlon Brando's dark-blue suit from Guys and Dolls and one of Marilyn Monroe's slinky dresses from How to Marry a Millionaire, are also up for grabs.

Think I will stick with Sweetheart. Archaic, ugly, rusty, but still starts on the button and is capable of doing the East African Car rally...with humouring.

Just like me.

Well, I'd take a house over a car ...

But I expect it'll get closer to 50,000 pounds British.

anyone taking a pool?

Anyone taking a pool on what the first thing out of the new owner's mouth will be when s/he gets behind the wheel for the first time?

My vote?

" DA-dum. DA-dum. DA-dum-DA-dum-DA-dum-DA-DUMP. DA-DUMP...doo-diddly DOOO, doo-DID-dly DOOO" <----theme music from Knight Rider.

I like the way the car now has external speakers to pump out that "swish swish" noise for the benefit of pedestrians when the scanner lights on the front are working Wink

I think there's going to be a flurry of late bidding on this, and I shall be a mite surprised (and perhaps disappointed) if it goes for less than $90,000.

Not that I shall be bidding myself, you understand.

Round here £50K will buy you a bad flat in a grotty district...where they all drive BMWs and Mercs....

Whats the betting it will go to a museum or a private collector and never see the road? I doubt it is road legal anyway...and the insurers would have a field day.

and red scanners on the grill? Everyone these days has one, dont they? (checks Datsun suspiciuosly)

Well, it went for $47,500 in the end. Which is an awful lot less than I thought it would. But I'd got worried for a little while there that it might not sell at all, which would have offended my collector's sensibilities Wink What I also realised is that the buyer will have paid 18% extra in "bidder's premium", which seems rather a high tax for partaking in an auction.
