I have a problem

Hello
My name is Wade U.
And I can not get enough of Gatchaman/BotP.

Probably like most of you.... I grew up watching BotP Thanks to Ted Turner and his cable empire. BotP was the absolute best back then. Either racing home from school or getting up at whatever Gosh-awful time that was (Central Time Zone) just to see those 5 teens given the keys to the most bad-a$$ vechile on Earth. Well, I guess I don't have to tell any of you.

To be honest with you all, I haven't had much internet access until as of late. Seemed like the computer was always one more way for me to spend money. Paying bills is fine... finding out about auction sites was not. Which leads me to how i got here.

Within the last year I got back into reading comics again. Recently I stumbled on to an old BotP comic and suddenly the floodgates were opened to all these very happy childhood memories just came rushing back.

Started doing some BotP research... learned about the whole Gatchaman relationship. Gatchaman seemed like something I really needed to experience. Ended up getting the Gatchaman DVD vol.1 and I was totally blown away!!! I've got volumes 2, 3 and 4 on their way.

My 12 year old daughter viewed vol.1 with me and I proud to say that Gatchaman will last through yet another generation. She can not get enough as well.

Besides slowly collecting my Gatchaman DVD collection, I got a lot of the action figures and comic books. Still looking for a couple of pieces to complete my set there, plus of any T-shirt possibilities. I might be able to help others looking for BotP comics. I got a local store with many back issues of Top Cows but not enough for complete sets.... little pricey usually around $4 an issue. Sorry if this is a forbidden subject, skimmed thru the Registration.

But in the long run, I have found my old lost obsession. I see no hope of me coming out of it. Now that I know this is here... at least there are people here I talk about it with. I hope you all will accept me and sorry it took me so long to get here.

Bird GO!!!

It's great to see you here, Wade! Wave2

Yep, many of us here entered the fandom as kids, watching BOTP. Some of us also fuond the fandom through G-Force, or Eagle Riders, or even (the lucky ones) watching Gatchaman itself.

I too adored BOTP as a kid, and when I saw it again as an adult learned about Gatchaman. In a way I envy you, watching all of those 105 episodes for the first time! Beware that you might find a few 'spoilers' around on this site. Since the show ahs been out for 30+ years we don't really have too many restrictions on that kind of thing.

It's great to see you here, and I hope you have fun looking around! welcome

It's great to have another Gatchamaniac on board! I had a similar experience- remembering BOTP, innocently typing it into Google...and voila! Here I am!

You will definitely enjoy watching all of the Gatchaman episodes...especially the episodes(and parts)they cut out of the series!

There's also some amazing fanfic around here, if you like that type of thing.

Great to have you here! Biglaugh1

Welcome Wade!

Nice to see you here, many of us have come to this forum via BOTP and discovering a world called Gatchaman. Enjoy your look around and don't worry there is not too much we don't discuss here, as long as we respect each other and are willing to listen to other opinions.

Welcome Wade! Come on in, take a chair and relax wit the rest of the Gatchamaniacs.

This is an addiction that no 12 step programme is going to assist with (although a twelve step programme may cause fic...).

Like many others, I raced home to catch BotP (and considering my high school was 45K from home - I usually only just made it!) and watched avidly. After it disappeared, I still remembered (and shuddered when I saw Eagle Riders - sorry ER fans!).

I only came to Gatchaman originals about 17 years ago when the first Anime club in Australia was formed in Brisbane. We huddled around a television watching grainy video tapes that people in Japan had taped and sent over - no dubs or anything!

Which means that with the ADV release, it was the first time I could actually see all the episodes with dubs and so understand what was going on. I also am trying to complete my collection (and I fear that some of my favorite episodes will be on the missing volumes...).

It's true that good quality television never goes out of style and just keeps getting new fans. I think tht Gatchaman has more than stood the test of time!

Hi Wade! Welcome to the group!

My 12 year old son isn't hooked but he enjoys all of the versions a lot. He's still ticked about the movie.

BotP is my first love and Jason is the winner. I could relate to his loner persona. And his car.

Hi, Wade!

Well, you certainly made it to the right place - welcome! Your story is very familiar to most of us here - we lived it!

I'm a fairly recent arrival myself, only discovering there were fellow addicts out there about 6 months ago.

Finding this place has opened a whole new world for me in more than just one way - I thought I was alone in my obsession that just didn't seem to die, despite not being able to get a 'fix' for so many years! I know exactly what you mean about having a problem. Wink2

Now, thanks to the many wonderful people here, I know I'm happier in my everyday life. I've been told by friends and co-workers that I've calmed down a lot in the last few months and I attribute that purely to being able to connect with others like me, other Gatchamanics that couldn't shake their obsession loose either. We are not alone!

A Maddy said there is no 12 step programme to cure Gatchamania and it's various counterparts. But, seriously, who would want to be cured?

Nice to meet you, Wade! You are far from alone in your obsession. I too had fond memories of Battle of the Planets, that led me to discover Gatchaman late in 2006 and I've been hooked ever since.

Posted by UnpublishedWriter on 12-03-2010 at 03:14:

Hi, Wade. Welcome.

I found this place after posting some fanfics. TJ recommended it.

If you go to Veoh, and type in 'Battle of the Planets', you will find all 85 episodes. Unfortunately, they are not in the Sandy Frank production order.

Look around here, and you'll find my list of BotP episodes and their Gatch originals. In the proper order.

Meanwhile, go to the 'Episode of the Week' and prepare to laugh your buns off at the reviews.

Cool, another Condor! Welcome, Wade! And no, I think Green says this quite eloquently in her sig, this is not an obsession, it's a way of life. Condor

Wink

Thank you all so much.

I'd like to think of myself as a Condor (in my youth) but I am actually more of an Eagle (now in my prime) bishop

I did find Veoh and the 85 BotP episodes, Thank You. So far what I have been doing is watch the Gatchaman espisode first and then if there is one.... watch the corresponding BotP espisode. The difference in story line in itself is amazing, let alone the number of minutes allowed for 7-Zark-7. I guess I would be one of those that would say, besides the shared animation that these are two different shows. I also did find the link where you can watch all 3 OVAs completely and for free (can pass that along if anyone needs).

Update on my DVD collection.... just came in the mail today, Gatchaman vol.2, 3 and 4. Got my weekend planned Sofa

Seems like a lot of nice people here kissmyarse
And a lot of Swans out there too.... pleasant surprise.
I think I will hang out here for....... awhile.
Where else am I going to go? canfly

Wade Check out the Episode of the Week section. TJ and LB have done some great recaps of both series and UW has added some with her own unique humor. All are well worth reading.

I'm not sure whether to be thankful or not that GoS episodes have only made a few internet appearances mostly on youtube. Though I suppose that it is really sad that I know that fact, given the most redeeming qualities of GoS were no Zark and more G2 scenes.

Ah, Green, in the mean time take your favorite Condor shot and resize it in paint and save to gif and upload it.

A couple of problems with this idea...

1. huh? do what? um.... this little button here turns the puter on, will it do that for me too? oh, if i click this, then i get the internet, that's a good thing, right? ummmm... what's 'paint'? I got some ceiling white out in the shed, will that do?

2. My favourite Condor shot? Good Lord, woman, do you know how many of them there are???

1. Um, Never mind . . . .

2. Too Damn Many! and that not including the fanart

Give me two or three favorite scenes with episode titles or numbers and I'll see what I can do for you. I need the practice with paint (no not the stuff that my hubby sells at the hardware story, but the Windows accessory Wink ).

welcome Wade! You've joined the right site!

My story is a bit different from most of those around as I had the fortune to enjoy watching Gatchaman, Gatch II and Gatch F upon discovering them on Italian Channels just after having seen only a few episodes of BOTP. In fact, I'm not so in BOTP but I respect the series the same!

On the other hand, my joining this site is just the same as the majority! I had rediscovered my joy in surfing the web after a period of "computer idleness" and, Gatchaman being one of the first things I've always had interest in, I just typed the name and here I was! .... and still not getting enough of it!

Please feel free to join in the discussions! The "Episodes of the Week" are great for getting you orientated with the series, and their authors do a great job in illustrating them to us and keeping us entertained at the same time! I'll never stop thanking TJ, LB and Saturn enough! If you like to draw please do not hesitate to share some of your work! We like art!

Thank you! Huggles

Now, um... two or three.... eek.

Let's see if I can narrow it down... Favourite Condor scenes... All of them?

I must admit I do like the ones where he does that half-smile thing. And the glare - luuuve that glare... mmmmm
