Question Ideas for Gatchamania...

Ok, I think I've brought this up before, but here I go bringing it up again.

What the hell should we do with this place?

I've lost touch with Cep, who is obviously still paying the bills here (the man has a heart of gold and a wallet of $$$$), but if anyone can get in touch with him, please send him my way!

I still have several gigs of Gatchaman stuff. Screen captures, art, merchandise, book scans, promotional items, games, you name it...anything and everything I collected over the years. But it's just collecting dust here. Something should and could be done with it.

It would make a great Wiki (http://www.wikia.com --as that was what I had originally intended Gatchamania to be, but obviously Wikipedia didn't exist when I first planned the site. But if anyone is interested in working on a Gatchaman Wiki with me, please post up. There's simply way too much information for one person to ever deal with.

Aside from time, the only other thing it would take would be a few dollars. I'd burn the information I have onto a DVD or whatever and then mail it to whomever wants it. Some of you may simply want the files because it's probably the biggest and best collection of Gatchaman "stuff" in the world (I'm serious, people with OCD should never ever start collections).

Does anyone else have any ideas about the site?

Katse

Hey Katse! Ideas...hmmm...not sure...but I definitely think we need a way to see your collection.

Didn't Cep mention something about it a long time ago? I'm friends with him on Facebook, so I could probably contact him there for you if you'd like.

I mentioned a while ago that maybe we need a place on the site allocated to discuss the Gatchaman movie (or lack of a movie, I guess).

I posted some stills of the stuff that was released at the last two ComicCons...not that the final product (*if* there is a final product) will even resemble them.

Even with all of the bad news about the movie, I still have a small (and growing smaller) window of hope that it will still happen.

Hello lovely ladies, Luvu 5

I have certainly been thinking about doing something with Gatch for some time but as normal RL gets in the way.

The gatchawiki was actually in testing a while ago, I just never really made it live and may still exist (though I would need to check) however I doubt it would take much to get it up and running. Mediawiki was the one in testing and was fairly straightforward.

Springie ... that of having a section entirely dedicated to the Gatchaman movie is a very good idea! All the pictures regarding it that some of you have kindly shared with us can be held in one place together with all the comments, images etc ... even if I think we can comfortably transfer all our discussions under the "Rant" section nowadays, as its future seems so glum! You know ... my hope of ever seeing a Gatchaman movie has become so little that I hardly have the eagerness I once had to view past comments or images regarding it, at least until some good news or new light emerges on it! The more I think about it the more I get frustrated! But, as you said, there's always a tiny fragment of hope! Perhaps, some day, we could finally add post-movie comments and reviews in that same section!

FYI I have just recreated the GatchaWiki

http://wiki.gatchamania.net/index.php/Main_Page

Its fairly basic. However are you sure you want to go down this route? After all a Wiki is publicly editable, maybe something like a CMS would be better?

I like the idea of a Gatchaman Wiki. If it's editable, then perhaps James (if he has the time) could make additions/corrections to the information.

Katse, I would love the have the information, and would be willing to contribute a few dollars to a DVD.

If I'm allowed to toot my own horn, I think the episode reviews we are doing here would be a great addition to the Wiki. I also have all of the Eagle Riders episodes written up on the website Springie shares with me.

I thought some Wikis had more control over who could put up what, or had to have items approved first by administrators (I could be wrong, a Wiki was just the first thing that popped into my head, because it was encyclopedic in nature, and I thought it would be a good way to organize all the stuff). What's a CMS?

It would be great if members could access all the info I shared with you, Cep, that way no one would have to part with any cash. I just don't know the best ways of doing this stuff--which is why I asked!

I think episode reviews would be wonderful to have, as well as fanart and fanfiction, and well, anything related to Gatchaman and it's many forms! It would just be so nice for people to see some of the stuff I've gathered over the years--especially from some of the rarer promotional VHS tapes for the Pachinko games, and a liimited edition Tatsunoko DVD that had Ken and Hurricane Polymer fighting each other on a roof top! (I got a really sexy screencap of Joe slurping noodles from that DVD). And I scanned a number of my books too, and I may have done some yaoi scans too (if not, I still have them here).

I just want to do some tinkering, and I think it'd be great to tinker together. I know everyone here would love what I have, so it's time to get sharing it! Who knows what inspiration some of you might draw from it?

*is all excited*

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_management_system

That's CMS - first time I've heard of it as well Big Grin

Am I right in thinking that a wiki would allow everyone to contribute online, whereas a CMS would allow easy management of submitted documents and items?

I would be more than willing to get the DVD you are talking about Katse. And if it means I need to part with a few $$ to pay for it I would be happy.

This all sounds exciting! I think the inclusion of the Episode Reviews should be a must! And, Katse, your idea to include Fanart and Fanfiction is brilliant! Thanks for wanting to share your valuable info with us others! I don't understand much regarding the difference between wiki and CMS but in my POV I think that there must be some type of restriction as to who may edit things in order to retain the authenticity of the material. People may contribute with their fanart and fanfics and even with suggestions and info which should be retained in a separate public section, not touching specific and authentic info such as that that James often shares with us and that which you have, Katse. And here I don't know if I'm making sense or if this could be done!

That's pretty much on the button, a wiki is a completely open website where the content is publicly changeable, the idea being a community works together on the site to share ideas and information. Wiki's require an awful lot of administration to make sure they are not abused.

A CMS allows you to manage who does what and where, a lot of wiki's have mods to allow that kind of control but that just turns them from being a wiki to being a strange sort of CMS.

Well, let's go with something where we can decide who can add stuff, so I guess that's a CMS.

So, we have to get everyone that wants to help access to the info. Cep, you have all that I have, so what's the easiest thing to do? Set up an FTP that everyone can get items from? A bittorrent so people can only download what they want, or can take it all (I'm wondering, where there are so many files and stuff, if that might be the best idea). It's easier for people to get everything from you than from me--I have to find my CDs/DVDs, then put everything back onto my computer, then burn copies for people. It'll take a long time and it'd be easier if it could all be done via the Net. (Simply because the idea of searching through my unheated storage shed in the middle of a Canadian winter isn't terribly appealing, now that I realize the storage tote is NOT in the spare bedroom closet).

Well, this should be quite interesting to say the least! I can't wait to get started!

I'm so happy about this, I'm going to celebrate with pizza!

Canadian Winter??? Why did I think you were in NY State? Or do you talking about the Arctic Highs we are sending down right now?

Dameion wants to set up a Gatch webpage himself. Perhaps you could go in with him on that. I volunteered to contribute (which means, given my lack of connections, that I'll be making many visits to older threads on this site and acknowledging all of you as sources for anything I produce).

When it gets warmer.

(Still a bit brisk down here in Georgia, but not as cold as it was just a week ago.)

UnpublishedWriter--Whoever wants to join in and help may! The more the merrier!

clouddancer--Nope, I'm in New Brunswick, Canada. Right next door to Maine. I realized how cold it was the other day when I looked at the weather forecast and said, "Hmm, that's nice, it's going to warm up to freezing this weekend!"

Canada--where "warming up" is a relative term.

Living here in Ontario I know what you mean, although we have been slightly warmer here. This weekend we were above freezing and had rain and fog.

I lived in the Saint John area when I was a child.

CD, you're in Ontario? Where abouts? I'm in the T-Dot.

And the big freeze hits on Friday .... gah. So not looking forward to that.

SJ, I am not sure what you mean by T-Dot. I have never heard Toronto called that before. But maybe that is because I do not live IN Toronto I live in what you would now call the GTA. Not that we in our area are happy with that distinction and all the extra taxes that come with it.

If I lived 20 minutes north of where I am I would not have to pay 5 cents to bag my groceries nor would I have to pay for a car emissions test (among other things.)

My hope is with the cold temps we will get some more snow. I really do not want to live for the next 8 weeks with brown grass, grey trees and mud every where. The snow will give everything a nice clean fresh look.

Yup I still have all the material you sent over, some of it we can use, some of it we can't but I was in the middle of sorting that a while ago.

We couldn't set up a bit torrent or video site, since that requires a huge amount of bandwidth, far more then any of us could afford but there are alternatives. Spin4
