Certain other message boards I've been to.

I'm not pointing the finger at any forum in particular, especially not this place, because there's alot of very friendly people here. But there's certain other forums I've been to that are just filled with ***holes. People who do one or more of the following:

1.Disrespect me for no reason
2.Force their opinions on others like they're facts (eg somebody who says ________ sucks)
3.People who just like to go off topic for no reason.

Speaking of the third one I mentioned, not too long ago, I was at this one forum, and I made a thread about wanting a character from this game I liked to be in another all-star game by that company, and they said that the topic title should be changed so it's about wanting another character to be in the game, and this person also said "All in favor say yes". If that's not rude, somebody please tell me what is. Not to mention, most of the people on that forum were so disrespectful overall, that recently, I just said "You know what? I don't need this", and I just started treating the people on that forum the same way they've been treating me so I can give them a taste of their own medicine, because I was tired of everyone on there and their shenanigans, and doing alot of the same stuff they've been doing like presenting a negative opinion as a fact (and normally, I do respect other people's opinions on certain things if they're different than mine, but not in a situation like those people at that place), not because I wanted to, but just so I can give them a taste of their own medicine. Alot of the people who go on the net (again, I'm not pointing the finger at anybody in particular) are little mama's boys who probably still live in their parents' basement or something who sit in front of a computer 24/7 and have no life. People like that are a bunch of egotistical jerks. I discussed this topic with a friend too recently, and they agreed and also said that nitpicking other people's opinions is their way of being tough.

*sigh* Sorry if I seem like I'm just carrying on. It's just really bothering me, and I need to get it off my chest. I don't know if you understand where I'm coming from, but I'm trying to explain it the best I can. Also, I'm trying not to post in this section of this forum too much, because this place is very peaceful and friendly, and I'd like it to stay that way. Smile I'm a nice guy, but stuff like what I just mentioned really makes me mad.

You will have to watch it here then - over here all our threads tend to go off topic and lead to smut. Or a significant number of them do. Even our No Smut Allowed thread quickly changed to a smut thread. laugh3

Hmmm, maybe I should not be letting you know this, you might decide you do not want to stick around here.

No, no, no, I'm not talking about off-topic in that context. I'm talking about people who just start talking about something else that isn't related to what the discussion's about to begin with in any shape or form. For example:I make a thread about something I found, and there's a grammar error or something, and the next poster talks about the grammar error, and then so does the person after that, and the person after that, etc., and the whole topic just turns into something completely unrelated instead of what it was meant to be about. And now I'm wishing I hadn't made this topic, because I feel like I'm starting trouble already, and believe me, that was not my intention.

Some people are twits. As for that other forum, I suggest you just ignore them. They'll read your attempt to give them a taste of their own medicine as you being rude to their fantastic, wonderful, egotistical selves. They won't get it. If they understood, they would not be so rude to anyone.

Unfortunately, the anonymity of the Internet has freed people to act like you-know-whats. That's why there are trolls and flamers, and all the other types in between.

HAHA ... it sounds like you came across from a certain little clicky group on the yahoo network...

Who I am not naming, okay...

I agree with what you're saying, Dark Writer... totally.. It irks me no end, too! Hell, grammar? That seems to be such a sore point with some people, eh. Who gives a hoot if a commar is in the wrong place or you typed "your" instead of "you're"?? Anyone would think you had entered an English class or something with the way people attack.

Never fear about such things here, dude. We know what you're trying to say and will focus on that instead of a typo ... well, unless, of course, that typo ends up as one of those Fruedian slips that is just simply amusing.

...I love those types of "oops".. LOL

All I can say, bud, is to just shrug such stuff off and ignore them. Rather than stooping to their level, just walk away. Hell, that's what I ended up doing with that "other" group.

I can't see that you're starting any trouble with your thread at all ... You're in the rant section, Mate ... rant away!! That's what it's here for!

Oh and BTW .... HI!! I'm SJ... Long time lurker, sometimes poster ... LOL!!

It's nice to meet you. I haven't been here that long actually. And you're right about just ignoring them. That's the best thing to do.

Well, I know I'm guilty of going off topic, but generally it is an 'evolution' thing where we're all chatting together. But you'll find that here people generally get along. We make an effort to be polite and inclusive, and IMHO this site is better for it.

I made Gatchmania eons ago just for the reasons you brought up. In fact, if you had been around to see the shite that went down in the first couple years of this place, you'd probably be suprised it's still around. And the only reason it's still around has nothing to do with me, but with the wonderful members here. I left for several years out of frustration with the Net, and the fact that real life tends to be much more important than Internet pettiness.

With that said, I decided when the board first went up no one would be banned/censored unless they were asshats. So obviously, if you spam, troll, flame or are offensive, you're out. But if you act like an adult (well, a relatively functional human, I wouldn't say we're all mature here ^_^), you're fine. That requires respecting everyone and their opinions. Giving respect earns respect. Funny how it works that way.

I'll be the first to say the Internet should come with a user manual. And you should have to have a license to use the Internet. It's meant to be a form of communication, education, information exchange and leisure. When it starts causing you stress in your life, that's when it's time to reassess who you're interacting with. Seems to be common sense, but I find common sense is becoming much less common nowadays.

Oh Katse ... I so remember those first years and the hell, fire and brimstone wreaked upon the site ... Back when it had a black background, red font, and all sorts of groovy fun.

I am not surprised Gatch is still here ... It's the most friendliest, open site on the net. Here you can goof off, muck around, spell shite wrong and forget grammar is your friend, and talk about any topic you want to! We can bounce offline for months at a time, and you come back to open arms ... and really cool emoticons... LOL!

I forgot to mention the wealth of information you can get here that extends way beyond just Gatchaman.

Dark Writer, I can't speak for everyone else, but I say open your mind, speak your mind, and have a damn good time with some of the most talented and kind hearted people on the net.

Oh and BTW ... So good to see your face around these parts again, Katse... missed you, girl!

You don't have to worry about me. I'm a very friendly person. You've done a good job here by the way.

DarkWater, I'm one person that can vow upon the friendly and gentle people on this site and the easy atmosphere that runs around.

English not being my first language, and having long been active again on the Internet, I always was afraid that I would have been misinterpreted with my opinions or laughed at with my writing! I, myself, question my own writing or my own points of view after the very moment I post, especially due to different cultures, but here I've learnt that there are people who do not laugh about who you are or what you do ... it's the other way round ... they join in what you wish to say and help you to say it better or to alleviate your worries concerning it. And, yes ... maybe I'm the first one to go out of subject, especially when talking about kids, art or everyday life that could be reflected in what we're talking about at that moment ... maybe even some smut (I'm getting used little by little!)! Sorry for that!

So, please ... do not hesitate to share your opinion! Everyone is in the same boat in this world and life is much more easier if we understand each other! I always reiterate that each and every person must be respected as an entity with its own perspective and its own make! Other than criticize it's much better to learn from others ... those who do so, I'm sorry to say that they're unsatisfied with themselves and want to bully in order to feel superior when they're not!

Couldn't have said it better myself, Gatchamarie!

So what if the grammar's a little off? Or a word isn't spelt right? The important thing is our affection for the topic - not the way in which it is spoken about.

I agree with everyone...this site rocks! I can't say that I've had to deal with a lot of unpleasant things on the web (only a few)- overall, it has been a great experience. I really enjoy sharing my thoughts and ideas with other fans!

It's good that you made your way here, Martin! I'm glad you have enjoyed it so far! We'll keep working to make it "drama free" and positive around here!

Thanks so much to Berg Katse Katse and our very own pirate, Cep Cep for keeping it going all of these years (even through the early days- sounds like things became very unpleasant- glad I wasn't around back then!)

A lot of fans have benefited from what you started! Bowdown 2

That's what I'm talking about! I've already started worrying about if I have sent the right message or not, words and all, and Green made my day! Thanks, Green!Huggles

I am glad you all enjoy the place, I have only ever banned one person from these forums and that was because they were blatantly and deliberately offensive.

Don't be over worried about voicing an opinion on these forums, as BK mentioned the forums were originally set up with the intention to be a bit more of a free thinking arena and I think I have managed to keep that going quite nicely by not being overly restrictive (or power mad).

From time to time there have been people who joined Gatch with the intention of being the "clique", telling others how to run the place and what not to do but they generally get told were to stick it and thankfully leave. Elfgrin1

Think you all deserve a big glomp! Power glomp
