Hi all!
Felix Ip's blog broke some news that's hardly a surprise. On Friday, Imagi let go of 100+ members of their Hong Kong staff. He doesn't say too much beyond how disappointed he is, but you can read what he has to say at:

An article regarding the layoffs appeared in a the Chinese newspaper, "Oriental Daily News." Below is a rough translation (Thank you Google) of the article. I have not gone through it to correct the grammar, but it still reads clearly enough to know what it is saying. It's sad news, but not really unexpected, given that Astroboy was hardly the financial success they thought. Interesting that kost of the layoffs are animators.

Even though I am feeling doubtful about the movie...I did see that IMDB added voice actors for Jinpei and Ryu on their site...maybe that was added before all of this layoff business...

That list of names is nothing more than the wish list of someone who IMDB has foolishly decided to believe. From the look of that list, it's probably a wish list of actors that someone wants for a live-action film, not a CG one. Besides, when and if Imagi does finally cast anyone for the film, they will be going for name actors for the roles. You know, people you might have actually heard of, just like they did with Astro Boy.
So, once again, ignore that list. It isn't real, and I shouldn't have to keep repeating this.
