ADV is Gone

Hi all!

Just saw this on Wendy's GatchaBlog site:

ADV Films Sells Assets

Sad...

Oh, that is so sad...

Well, there goes my pipe dream that they'd dub Gatchaman II and F...

This is depressing! I'm glad that I bought all the Gatchaman volumes when I did. I thought, maybe, that ADV might produce more again if the upcoming Gatchaman movie drummed up interest, but I guess that won't happen.

That is sad. Although, I too, was hoping that ADV would dub and release Gatch II and F, I have to keep hope alive that someone, someday, will secure the rights and release them.

Maybe we should just take lessons in learning Japanese.

Oh, so does that mean I'll have to content myself with the korean dubs on Pandora?

Actually, despite being on a Korean website, the shows on Pandora are still in their original Japanese, only with Korean subtitles added. But yes, that's still currently the only way you can easily watch the shows for free.

Here I feel fortunate enough as my DH has managed to download some other episodes of Gatch F in the Italian language which I know and which I used to watch when I was a child! And, possibly, there are more episodes in the pipeline - the process is quite slow!

The BF showed me this site once. I have a feeling that if I listened to all the songs, repeatedly, I would learn some Japanese, but I'm not sure if I could handle it...

That's exactly the feeling I had after repeteadly seen the Gatch F eps in japanese! The words sound very familiar, and I can even recognise few of them. Ken uses a lot of baka for example.

The only Japanese I know is from doing Judo and Karate, which doesn't quite help me understanding what on earth they are saying. Sigh.

Baka means Idiot (or the likes of Amy) in case you were wondering.

I know a limited amount of Japanese... one is requesting money. LOL.... something that could either get me into trouble if I were there or lots of it.

Same here, and I still have you guys to thank for that ^^

You know with things like this and Yatterman I'm hoping things like TvC and that Hopefully-on-track Marvel/Tatsunoko crossover might at least generate some Fansub interest.

Also doing a search for it a couple months ago, there were people swapping VHS subs for Gatchaman II and F (among many other Tatsunoko series), I tried sending them an email seeing if I could somehow strike a deal, and no response, I guess those people have been long inactive.

If you are able to get in on that, Cain, let us know! We'd love to share those around, and I have other things to trade.

"Baka" is one that I can pick out when I listen to the subbed versions, along with "nani" (what) and "kuso galactor me" (Joe likes to say that one). And then there's the more obvious "aniki" and "onechan" from Jinpei, or "hakase" for Dr. Nambu.

Someone I work with, his wife is Japanese and I've met her a couple times. I'd be tempted to try to get her to help me with a grand fan-subbing project, except I really don't think she would have the time! Nor would I, for that matter. Still, I figure now that if I ever need a translation of something in Japanese that isn't too long, I could ask her.
