Got $20,000 Burning a Hole in Your Pocket...?

Hi all!

Ever wanted to own a original piece of Gatchaman artwork painted by master illustrator and former Gatchaman character designer Yoshitaka Amano? Well, now's your chance!

On Amano's Amano Galaxy website, which has been set up for his new art exhibition in Japan, Amano has a shop where you can purchase some of his original artwork, including a pair of Gatchaman images.

Untitled:

Heros S-2:

Each piece is created using automotive paint on a piece of aluminum, and measures .5 meter x .5 meter x 10 cm. But they don't come cheap! Each piece costs 1,890,000 yen -- roughly $20,350.00 at current exchange rates!

All the items for sale, including the far more affordable "Amano Galaxy Members Cards" (Only 1,090 yen -- roughly $11.75) and the Amano Galaxy Postcard Set (Only 2,100 yen -- roughly $22.50) can be found here:

Amano Galaxy Goods

Before you ask, the other Gatchaman-esque characters are Amano originals, obviously inspired by the Gatchaman bird motif, but otherwise unrelated.

Also, free for viewing on links off of the main Amano Galaxy page, you'll find artwork he has done over the last couple of decades, including several Gatchaman pieces that you may enjoy.

Just figured you'd want to know!

Thank you James. I love the looks of that artwork but at those prices, I do not think I could afford them, and also "eat."

Question James .... After looking at some of Yoshitaka Amano other work on that site, what lets you know that only those two are Gatchaman images and not the other pieces of work there?

Hi all!

Because the other "Heros" paintings (S-3, S-4, S-5, and S-6 on the sales page) are based on a non-Gatchaman hero character series that Amano came up with a year or two ago. I recognize them from that. The two Gatchaman images have the proper helmet shape (If not the antenna) and the blue collar that the other designs do not. There's also a bit of having seen enough of Amano's artwork to recognize his renditions of the characters in his current style, which I'll freely admit is a somewhat intangible reason.

Now if I just put away $1 a week I might eventually be able to afford one!

Hi all!

Yep, and it only take 384 years!

I could probably manage $100 a week Ebony so I guess I would get one of those pieces well before you. Wink

Thank you James.
I trust you and your info. Ladysman
I just wondered if there was any "official" way to tell - like maybe it says Gatchaman on it.

Nothing so simple. As it is, only one of the pieces of art on display off of the main page has a label that reflects anything Gatchaman-esque, and that one is titled "Swan."

Thanks for sharing that info, but like most I doubt I'll ever see one in my house.

Yikes!!! Maybe I should put away a bit more, I want to be alive to appreciate it, not create some kind of legend for my grandkids to honour after a few generations...

I can see it now...

Timmy opens the sacred box...moves the enviromentally friendly packaging out of the way, his gaze falls on the item his great, great, great Granny Ebonyswanne set out to buy for the family so many years ago. "Its amazing!" His sister gasps as Timmy ever so gently picks up the picture.

"Yeah...but...you know...with inflation this thing cost us out whole family forture...but she did set up the automatic payments and someone had to honour it...Its a wonder than family in Japan hung onto it for so long...from what I hear its now famous there because its the longest layby in history. This is a legend...just like Granny..."Timmy studied the rusty edges of the picture. 384 years had taken its toll on the artwork."People actually watched people dressed up in bird costumes back in those days...sheesh. Flat uninteresting images running on a flat screen...pity they didn't have real life TV in those days. like we have now..."

"But he is cute." Sissy said winking at the Eagle.

"Get a grip, he was never even real." Timmy looked for a space on the wall..."I hope we can something back on this...worthless...." Then his eyes fell on a picture the late Granny Ebonyswanne.... "Opppssss...sorry granny...we'll hang it right here so you can look at it everyday...for all eternity..."
