News Related to the Live Action Gatchaman Movie
Hi all!
It was announced on June 19th that Takara-Tomy, the company that owns Tatsunoko Productions, has made an investment into Nikkatsu, the studio that created the live action Yatterman movie and has the rights for the live action Gatchaman movie.
As part of the agreement between the two companies, Takara-Tomy has purchased 2.83% of the available stock in Nikkatsu, and Nikkatsu will be producing live action films based off of Takara-Tomy products. The subjects for these films will include Takara-Tomy toy lines, such as the Barbie-like Rika-chan, and adaptations of further Tatsunoko animated properties. The plan is to release one Takara-Tomy based film a year.
Nothing specific regarding the live action Gatchaman film was included in the press releases. But, with the Yatterman live action movie having been a major box office smash, and with Nikkatsu already holding the rights to produce a live action Gatchaman movie, it seems likely that this will help to fast track the work on their Gatchaman film.

Thanks for the update! I really hope a live action Gatchaman film gets made. The Yatterman trailer looked really good to me (though I don't know so much about Yatterman).
I'd be keen to watch a live-action Gatchaman movie, even if it were solely in Japanese -I think I'd enjoy the visual aspect and the action even if I couldn't understand the dialogue (though I'd be hoping for a DVD release with English subs).

That's wonderful news James! I hope that we could finally watch the movie that we waited for so long! As a new member and not knowing entirely about what was discussed regarding this movie and all the expectations related to it, I hope that the true nature of the Gatchaman characters, environment and storyline would remain untouched. This I hope after watching the 2004 Casshern Movie based on the 1973 anime tv series of Casshan (as known in the US) or Kyashan (as known here) by Tatsunoko Productions. The plot of this movie was changed a bit from the story I knew way back when I watched the series but I understand that, to cram a whole series in one movie and to adjust events reflecting a more realistic version, some alterations must take place. All in all I liked this latter movie with all its effects and action.
As the Gatchaman Movie plot is to be based on a prequel (as I read so far) I think that we are in for some new info regarding Gatch. Perhaps, someday, there will also be a sequel, who knows!

I bet the Condor is betting that the Live action film will appear first as things are taking so long for the other version to be finalised. Now it's envisaged to be released in the year 2011, being dragged from one year to another.
