Hi all!

So, what magazine is that article in?

It comes from the latest Nintendo Power that got leaked. If you squint your eyes, in the lower right corner, you can see this is the yet-to-be-released July issue. It's still a bit fishy I know. But this does match up with a couple things.

Seth Killian and Christian Svenson keep posting TvC match videos on Capcom's official blog. The latest from May 12th even says "Keep Hope alive"

http://www.capcom-unity.com/s-kill/blog/2009/05/12/tatsunoko_vs_capcom_keep_hope_alive

Also Svenson was quoted as saying a short while ago that an announcement regarding TvC could be made MAYBE in 2 weeks. And that was about two weeks ago
http://gonintendo.com/?p=81634/ Of course that is oddly coincidental.

They also officially unveiled their E3 lineup saying they have announcements for two mystery games.

So I understand the skepticism, but it's looking like %95 real right now. The magazine pictures also show English names. I'd say the only thing left to wonder is if anyone on the Tatsunoko side got cut out. But from showing that art of Ken and Ryu, it looks like Gatchaman's most certainly in.

I wasn't so much skeptical as simply wanting to know the source of the information and where we would be able to find that article to read for ourselves. You provided the news but no details, and a photo but no information as to what magazine it was a picture of. That lack of information regarding this exciting news leads to questions, since there is obviously be a desire to know these things. Other questions would include when do they expect the game to be released and what kind of price range are we looking at? Hopefully that article will answer some of those.

A lot of game news is like that. Companies will basically "announce" something with little info other than that more will surface later. I did post that quickly in excitement I do admit though. It's expected to make a showing at E3 next month.

APPARENTLY the article says that we'll be getting new characters and Capcom's even looking into Online Play (something the Japanese version lacked) and it'll be released by the end of the year. But I see no concrete evidence to post that as gospel just yet. I'd wait until E3 before more details are posted.

I would say don't hold your breath, but then getting it to America seemed impossible, so who knows?

Unfortunately it's a Nintendo Wii exclusive so far. It was in Japan, and I see it unlikely to change.

Posted by Transmute Jun on 17-05-2009 at 20:14:

Wii only, huh? I might be convinced... Wink

Okay there's now scans of the material. To sum up the article:

-The game's subtitle will be changed from "Cross Generation of Heroes" to "Ultimate All-Stars"

-Lifebars have been slightly redesigned.

-There's new Shinkiro art for the characters (?!?)

-All the characters are mentioned except for strangely Daimao and Ippatsuman. No word if it's because Capcom couldn't secure the rights or simply that they're secret unlockable characters in the Japanese version.

-Online play is a possibility. New exclusive characters and features hinted at:

Oh and there are bigger versions available but their quite hefty in size. I did crop out some shots though Elfgrin1

No BotP name usage here!

So this is quite the unprecedented event! I mean aside from the BotP game from 1986 isn't this the first Gatchaman related game to make it over here?

Posted by Transmute Jun on 18-05-2009 at 04:41:

Well, there was Gatchaman Access from the OAV movies. I don't know if that was officially released here, though.

If by "here," you mean the United Kingdom, then yes. If you mean North America, then this will be the first Gatchaman-related game to be released here. The BotP game was created for a game system not available in North America, and the game was never released here.

No, it wasn't, and neither were Tatsunoko Fight, Gatchaman: The Shooting, the pachislot simulation, or the PC-9800 game. About the closest thing we've had was the Gatchaman U-Print program, which was released with both English and Japanese language options by a company that had ties in both America and Japan. It didn't have any sort of wide release in America, but it could be easily ordered if you knew to look for it.

Well do I have some good news for you from one of Capcom-Europe's admins:

Yes, it's coming to Europe. That's all I can say for the moment.

Now I'm not sure how PAL Gaming releases work, but if it's coming to Europe, that should mean Australia and New Zealand would be a part of that.

Yeah I've got Wii Fit, and I do about 20 minutes each morning, and while the weight loss isn't DRASTIC, I do feel a lot better.

Also the Rayman Rabbids games are really popular woith the kids and at parties. I speak from experience ^_^

Anyway, got some big news from E3. Official Trailer and Press Release:

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-09-tatsunoko-vs/49941

quote:

SAN MATEO, CA — June 2, 2009 — Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is coming to North America for the Wii™ home video game system. Capcom’s popular and critically acclaimed ‘VS’ fighting series is getting an all new next-generation introduction. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom pits Capcom’s iconic characters against Tatsunoko Productions anime superheroes. This clash of heroes face off in two-on-two battles for the ultimate 2D tag-team battle.

Originally released in Japanese arcades in the Fall of 2008, the original Tatsunoko vs. Capcom moved to the Wii console on December 11, 2008. This extraordinary fighter will blend these two rich universes by taking Capcom characters like Ryu from Street Fighter, Morrigan from Darkstalkers and the giant PTX-40A from Lost Planet and putting them against Tatsunoko fan-favorite characters from Gatchaman, Hurricane Polymar, Casshern and more. It’s a battle royale that delivers match-ups that only exist in fans wildest dreams!

Unlike the more well-known six-button layout that the Street Fighter franchise pioneered, the VS line features a simplified four button system: “Weak”, “Medium”, “Strong” and “Assist” for the tag-team option of. The “Assist” feature adds another compelling element found Capcom’s other “VS” series: allowing players to switch their character on the fly or call for help from their tag-team partner, allowing for spectacular super moves (“Hyper Variable Combination”). Successful execution of the Assist feature can turn the tide of battle on a dime. Historically the VS series excels in integrating the tag-team options by including customized moves like Variable Assist, Snapback, and the previously mentioned Hyper Variable combination that lets both characters on one team perform their Hyper attack.

TvC enhances the above gameplay with new mechanics, including the Variable Aerial Rave that allows characters to be switched in the middle of an Aerial rave. More moves include the offensive Assault and defensive maneuver Mega Crash. Another new gameplay mechanic, titled Baroque, illuminates the character in a rainbow of colors, cancels the current attack and extends combos and damage.

Featuring a robust line-up of characters, the console version added four mini-games and optional control schemes

This “newer” version of TvC, currently dubbed Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, removes one character due to licensing issues, and adds five new ones, online gameplay, more mini-games and an enhanced story mode.

Features:

• 26 fan-favorite characters from the Tatsunoko and Capcom universes face-off in this stylish 2D fighter

• Tag-team battles and customized two-character fighting techniques produce a wild, dazzling spectacle

• Wi-Fi Online gameplay allows worldwide matches

• Four battle modes include Friend, Rival, Free and Ranked Battles

• Match-ups are not restricted to just “Friends”

• Earn Points and Titles (for Title Creation) for all to see

• All-new VS gameplay mechanics creates a new way for fans to return to the series

• More than 20 Mini-game provide additional multiplayer fun

• Enhanced control schemes offer a simplified control scheme option and allow use of the Classic Controller and Gamecube Controller

• Wii-exclusive

The "missing" character is Daimao, as he hasn't been shown in any of the English screens or footage. Still one character missing ain't bad considering this must've been a licensing nightmare.

In any case, cross you fingers for Berg Katse or Joe

Also I bolded title creation, because I wanted to point out, if it's like SFIV (you unlock different titles you can post on your online profile that are based of the characters), I have the feeling there'll be a bunch of titles like "Galactor Agent" or "Ninja Trainee". Pretty awesome stuff!
