Live-action Yatterman trailer

I found this kind of interesting, a trailer for a live-action movie based on a Tatsunoko show. It has me imagining now just what a live-action Gatchaman movie might look like.

Don't forget, Nikkatsu, the studio that's producing the live-action Yatterman movie, also has the rights to do a live-action Gatchaman movie. Unfortunately, beyond saying that they intend to do it, and including one press sheet on the film in a studio publicity packet in 2007, the studio hasn't announced anything regarding that film.

For those who care, here's what that press sheet looked like:

And a close-up on the image:

Of course, if the Yatterman movie does well for them, it might convince them to get going on their Gatchaman movie. So, let's hope that Yatterman is a box office success!

That trailer is freaky! But wow, it looks *exactly* like the cartoon! If these guys do a Gatch movie, I will be *really* excited! Bounce2

It does look kinda strange, but I'd be willing to watch it. Even if it's not translated.

Make that a double Thumbsup if it's Gatch.

Thanks James for showing us the page.

Nice image, makes me think of Batman.

Anyway, yeah I'm pretty excited for the Yatterman movie. Hopefully, like Casshern it'll be realeased on DVD here. I know it was recently confirmed it would premiere in NYC.
But back to the Gatchaman movie. Maybe they're holding off waiting to see how Yatterman does? Or maybe IMAGI's film?

I didn't realize this was the same company that was going to do a live-action Gatch movie too. Now I'm really curious to see the Yatterman movie -hopefully a version with English subtitles will at least be released on DVD- to see just how it looks!

LB, I don't think that Nikkatsu and IMAGI film are one in the same. (I could be wrong though, GG looks towards James for conformation) Still any Gatch movie would rock.

They aren't the same company, GG. I don't think LB was trying to imply that they were.

It is confusing, with there being a CGI Gatchaman movie in the works, and a live-action Gatchaman movie (supposedly) in the works too! Should they both come to fruition, I wonder if they'll have the same title too -that could really get confusing.

That trailer looks interesting... thanks for sharing and telling me which button Wink

It may end up not being a problem after all, if this story that Wendy posted on the BotP Yahoo! Groups list is accurate:

Imagi Animation is Out of Money

Yes, it's very discouraging news about Imagi. The live-action Gatchaman film could end up being the one we're more likely to see.

Perhaps. If they manage to capture the look and feel of the TV series as well as they have for Yatterman, then it might be a far superior movie to anything Imagi might produce.

Unfortunately, the live action one might not be available in English... even with English subtitles!

I'd watch a Gatchaman movie solely in Japanese, if that was the only option, even thought I wouldn't know what they were saying. (Well, I'd recognize "kuso!" at least)

I remember, years ago, watching "La Reine Margot" in French with no subtitles. I understood maybe about one third of the dialogue, but it was visually gorgeous and I'm a complete sucker for 16th century period movies, so it was worth it.

I agree, I'd watch it! But from watching Gatch F in Japanese I know I'd miss out on a lot and it just wouldn't be as fulfilling.

1/3 is FAR better than the amount of Japanese I understand! But yes, if they had it in French I'd be quite happy! I'm just fine watching the 1978 Gatchaman movie in French. (with French subtitles, naturally!)

Lol I'd be in the same boat... If it was in French I'd have to get mom to translate...
