Gatchapin

Hi all!

Most of you are aware of Gatchapin, that combination of Gatchaman and the Fuji TV kids show character Gachapin, but I figure most of you have not had the opportunity to see any episodes of the Gatchapin TV series.

Well, it turns out that Fuji TV has the show available on their Fuji TV Kids Club website. The show can be found here:

http://www.fujitvkidsclub.jp/webchannel/index.html

It should be pretty easy to spot, since it's the second show listed on the page. They make one episode available each weekday, with the current episode highlighted in red. New episodes become available each weekday around 9:00am Japan time, and on the weekends all five episodes from that week are available for viewing.

You need to be registered with their kids club in order to view the shows on that page. Since the registration process can be a pain, I've gone ahead and done that for you. You'll need the following:

Member ID Number: 15023448
Password: gatchapin

When you click on the current episode, it will come up with a small window with a "Play" arrow in it. When you click on that, it will go to a page asking for the ID number and the password. Once you've entered those, it will take you back to the main page, where you can click on the current episode again, press play, and the episode will appear in a new window.

Starting today, they are at the beginning of the first Gatchapin series, "Go Go! Gatchapin." Today's episode is titled "Gatchapin Vs Pierre Katse."

Yes, these are entirely in Japanese, but the stories are aimed at young kids, and are very easy to follow. The average episode of this series involves Gatchapin out on patrol in Kitashinagawa, doing good deeds and other civic-minded activities, when he is spotted by his arch enemy, Pierre Katse. Pierre Katse attempts to set some sort of trap for Gatchapin, and these traps never work. Then, in proud tradition of Wile E. Coyote, the traps backfire and catch Pierre Katse instead. Humiliated, Pierre Katse must report his failure to his "Boss," who is less than pleased. And all this takes place in less than 3 minutes.

So, now's is your chance to give Gatchapin a try! They're silly, harmless fluff that's aimed at young kids, so don't expect anything deep and meaningful here. Be warned, though, that I've found that they can become a bit addicting after a while.

Enjoy, and remember, there's a new episode available tomorrow!

James

I can second the comment about these things being addicting. I can't follow more than one word in fifty of the dialogue, but the storylines themselves are pretty easy to follow even without it. And Pierre Katse is as funny as heck. You actually start feeling sorry for the guy, because as bad guys go his heart just doesn't seem to be in it. But he's got his orders, and he follows them as best he can. I would too, if my boss looked like an evil version of Jeannie in the Bottle (anyone remember the animated opening credits for I Dream of Jeannie?).

Thank you, James! That was so cute and funny -I agree that Katse is the best part. I will definitely tune in tomorrow too!

LOL, I just saw today's episode! I have a few questions, though.

1) What was Katse eating? I'm sure it's some tofu or seafood thing, but it looks like marshmallows in BBQ sauce.

2) Did Gatchapin tell the schoolgirls to go one way and then they ended up leaving in the opposite direction?

3) Did Katse actually have a bandage on his mask? ROFL 2

Too funny! DS saw this one and loved it! (He's 6.)

TJ, that thing Katse was eating looked like marshmallows dipped in chocolate to me!

Hi all!

It's Dango, a Japanese dumpling. I'm not certain, but I believe it's a Mitarashi Dango that he's eating. You'll find that Pierre Katse eats a lot of Dango in this series.

Exactly what Gatchapin is pointing about is not explained, only that his (silent) conversation with the girls is enough to distract him what what Pierre is doing and that the girls seem pleased with what he has spoken to them about.

I don't know about a pandage, but he did have a bandage.

You have a six year old Nintendo DS? Wow, and here I thought they were first released in 2004...

I am so hooked. I love the fact that they use original Gatchaman music, and Sosai X at the end cracks me up, except I was hoping he'd zap Katse again in this ep!

Didn't you hear the little threatening crackling sound as Katse backed away? ROFL 2

Thanks for the responses, James, and I'm glad you're getting a laugh out of my typos. It's the least I can do to repay you, after you set up the account for us all to watch! Cheeky

Oh and I'd be happy to show you my 6 year old DS. It plays all kinds of games, including unique Gatchaman ones. Wink

ETA Perhaps I'm slow, but I just realized that the 'trap' Katse keeps trying to lay for Gatchapin is a 'black hole'! pound That's quite the in-joke!!!!

You see a lot of Pierre and Black Holes toward in the early episodes of the series, but that changes after the first five or six episodes.

He picked up a platter of sushi.
