Which Gatchaman is it?

I came across this on the web. Does anyone know which Gatchaman this is?

I am only presuming only by what it says, but I think it's the first one as it describes Galactor as a new threat and Nambu "unleases" the SNT and it says 105 episodes.

105 episodes means that it is the Gatchaman 1 series.

I remember coming across that a couple of years ago when I was looking for a Gatchaman II and Gatchaman F on DVD with English subtitles. ADV did the English dub which I prefer because I like the actors for the voices.

Since it says episodes 1 - 105 I would think it's Gatch I also.

FTR, Gatch II has 52 episodes and Gatch F has 48 episodes. So even if it was both of those series together, it would be 100 episodes.

When I first saw the pic, I was hoping it was Gatch II as well. Pity.

ITA it's a pity that I doubt it's Gatch 2 or Fighter.

Hi all!

I can confirm that those are a first series set. I remember when they came out back around 2001. They're a Hong Kong bootleg set. They are subtitled, but the translations are very rough. You're better off spending your money buying the ADV releases.

Is this the version where Ken, Joe, Jun, Jinpei and Ryu are Sean, Alex, Jenny, Sting and Dragon?

Hi all!

Yep, that's the one!

With all these different names, I am surprised that they don't have multi peronality problems

Somehow I feel inspired to post one of Sosai X's Gatchafunnies:

Interesting. The new member who was posting for a while this summer, JasonvsEveryone, this was the version that he had acquired. I'm assuming that it costs much less than the ADV version (which is what I have)?

Posted by tatsunokofan on 20-09-2008 at 09:22:

Hi all!

Yes, it does cost substantially less, but one major trade off for that lower price is lower quality video. The Hong Kong discs cram the entire series onto far fewer discs (9 of them, if I remember correctly. Three discs with 35 episodes total per box), and to do so they have a far greater compression rate than the higher quality Nippon Columbia or ADV releases.

Thank you for the info James! I'm glad I invested in the ADV version :-)

I'm glad I was able to afford the complete ADV collection, but if I weren't, and also couldn't rent it, I would settle for this one rather than not see Gatchaman at all. It's good, I suppose, that there are lower cost options out there.
