Gatchaman Graffitti

During my little jaunt to the Anime Expo, I searched for Gatchaman items but found very little. There were some of the ADV' DVD' and a figure set that included Ken but for the price it wasn't worth it. I did splurge and buy the Gatchaman Graffiti book. I know it's in Japanese but they have some great pictures from the episodes as well as some great art. I don't suppose any has ever translated this book?

Hi all!

I haven't seen anyone do a full translation of that book. The only parts I've seen done are some of the staff interviews and the voice cast roundtable discussion.

To be perfectly honest, the majority of the text (Aside from the interviews, and perhaps the series Planning Establishment) isn't all that exciting, acting more like a primer to the series than an in-depth examination of things. If you're familiar with the shows, you wouldn't learn a whole lot of new things by reading the text. In some cases, the information isn't completely accurate. Take their write-up for Battle of the Planets, for example. They say that the series ran 78 episodes, and aired on the ABC network. Nice research, guys!

Regardless, the great selection of images throughout the book make getting a copy well worth the effort, even if the text itself is a little ho-hum.

You can see the cover of it here:

It was reissued with a new cover in 2000, and that version can be seen here:

It turns up for sale on eBay every once in a while, and far more regularly on Yahoo! Japan Auctions. There are a couple of dealers at Comic Con who might have it, like Nichibei or Anime Link, but I have no idea what kind of price they'd be asking for it.
