As much as I love Tiny, I just had to go with Ryu...the comments he has in the ADVs crack me up...and he seems to have a little more backbone than Tiny...

One of my fav Ryu quotes..."That would be better than cheese!"

I pick the OAV Ryu! He also had a good sense of humour! And I liked the hairdo too! Elfsmile2

I had to go with Ryu too, the original series allowed so much of his real depth show through.

ITA about the original Ryu. The comments he makes (and the voice actor for the ADVs) crack me up! ROFL 2

Ryu is hands down my first choice -- I like him best when he gets riled up and starts running through galactors like an out of control locomotive. I like his hidden fierceness.

Me too TJ. Victor Carsrud, who did the voice of Ryu on the ADV Gatchaman DVD's, has a terrific sense of humor! Some of the lines he says are really funny! I like that he gave Ryu a New Jersey accent. It seems to suit him.

I call Ryu (Tiny in my AU) my gentle giant.

He is big and strong and can be fiercely protective of his loved ones, but gentle when it comes to displays of love and kindness.

No Tiny's!!! and here I thought because Tiny is a big teddy bear he'd get votes.

But I like Ryu the best, he see's all sides of the triangle.

Well for me it was a toss up between the Tiny I watched as a kid, Ryu I have watched just recently in the ADV DVD's

But really it is hard because I also have my Tiny who is a combination of Tiny from BOTP and Ryu from Gatch.

I picked Ryu.

Despite being, so often, comic relief, and getting saddled with undignified slapstick, the Owl nevertheless retains a quiet dignity -I think it stems from his strength and loyalty.

I do want to hug in Eps.

He even brought out the softer side of Joe in an EPs with the deer.

Hi all!

In the Japanese version, his speech patterns and accent portray him more as a rural, country bumpkin-type, not exactly in keeping with the Jersey accent (In the ADV dubs) or the Bronx accent (In BotP) that he ended up with. Still, despite not being 100% faithful to the intent of the original, both of the latter interpretations were made to work fairly well. Thanks in no small part to the talent of the voice actors, I'm sure!

Yes, that was so sweet!

I think my fav episode of the Owl is Episode #26 when he left the team. The last scenes of him and Ken when they're about to meet their end are touching.

I like that drowning together EP too -- brings out such an interesting depth (no pun intended) to the relationship between them. I don't think that is as obvious anywhere else.

That is an episode I always remember, for the angst on Owl's part and the friendship shown between the two.

If I recall, that episode also has a cool scene where Ryu hoodwinks a Galactor guard, and then neatly clobbers him to escape from a cell.

Proving that the Owl does have brains as well as brawn...
