I'm guessing it's a parody of low-budget Italian movies of the late 60s/early 70s ?

The clothes and hairstyles in it do rather resemble those in Gatchaman.

Yes he is, I've read on other sites that he was meant to be Italian. But I guess the Japanese only really know their own surnames.

OK I just got back from watching it...between the bad acting and the panther growl...I'm guessing it didn't make any money...LOL

I think it has been said in Canon that Joe is Sicilian. It depends on your POV as to whether or not you consider Scicily to be part of Italy. Wink
