Birdies

I have been thinking and yes it does hurt, but I was thinking that since there are many types of eagles, falcons, hawks, swans, etc, which kind of sparrow would G4 be and then I thought about trying to find out which type of eagle, condor, swan, sparrow and owl that the team could have been based on .
So here's the results of my investigation.

G1 - Mountain Hawk-eagle or Stellar's Sea Eagle

G2 - Californa Condor - This is the only one with similar colours as Joe.

G3 - Bewick's swan

G4 - Japnese Sparrowhawk

G5 - Blakiston's Fish-owl

Very interesting, Met. I think you made good choices.

Condors look beautiful when in flight, but I hadn't realized just how ugly their heads really are until I looked at the pictures in the link -what was Joe thinking?

LOL... my DD did a project in school about endangered animals and she chose the California Condor... she was so proud to show it to me on Open House night! Wonder why? ROFL 2 It was like our own secret joke! Wink

Jinpei is meant to be a swallow though, not a sparrow.

Depends. I know I've seen some versions where he is considered a sparrow, and in the OAVs he was a falcon. In Eagle Rider's he's a *choke* Bird of Paradise.

But you're right, of course, in the original Gatch series he's a Swallow....

I would be interested in why Met chose those varieties over others.

I had thought of something different for the Swan.

Eagle - I had not really done much of a search but had always thought of a larger variety.

Jinpei, I think of as a Swallow with his forked tail

Ryu, I had thought of as something more common for him like a barn owl or Hoot Owl, (considering I am N.A.)

"Oops, sorry." Bangs head agaisnt brick wall.

G4 - Barn swallow - subspiecies - H. r. gutturalis

I consider the Secretary bird as a funny named one because it sounds like calling a young woman secretary a "bird" as some British people call young women.

And here's 2 more funny named birds Welcome swallow and Fairy martin swallow

Maybe he was drunk with grief over his parents or something.

I only went for the birds that are seen in Japan and for the condor, I only found 2 types. As for Ryu, I guessed he was a Horned Owl.

For the eagle, again I went for the eagle seen in Japan rather than another type of eagle. Could anybody tell me what country Getz comes from in Gatchaman II is and what type of bird he reperesents?

The japanese sparrow hawk does sort of look like Jinpei's birdstyle though, with the blue colouring and the big yellow eye.

Ah, but does it have the same interest as collecting bugs as pets.

Back in the '70's watching BotP I figured out that Mark was an Eagle, Keyop a Swallow and Tiny was a Horned Owl...though I've never seen any green/orangey owls...maybe those were his favorite colours...

I pictured Princess first as a Dove and then a Swan after seeing the sequence where the team is silouetted or rather their shadows are casted as birds against the wall as they fly down. It was then that I noticed her shadow had a long neck...'that don't look like no Dove' my 12 year old brain concluded, so she was either a Swan or a Goose. And that made more sense to me because I knew personally from visiting Grandma's hen-house, how nasty and vicious a goose could be. (Yes, I was beaten up by a bird!) Not that I don't think Springie's Dove couldn't kick ass!

I had no clue that G2 was a Condor. I just figured he was another kind of Eagle or Falcon, some kind of bird of prey. But I did think that Mark's white birdstyle vs. Jason's darker colours meant or represented something and was tied to their personalities somehow, like yin/yang, Good Cop/Bad Cop'. Oh how little did I know...

I always thought G-2 was a hawk back in the day. It wasn't until I started poking around the Internet that I found out I was wrong. And I agree with one of the other posts on this thread--condors aren't the prettiest birds. From what I understand they're basically a kind of vulture. Yuck. Maybe the animators were focusing on the impressive wingspan when they chose it.

They would have to, he has an impressive body to match it. laugh3
Not to mention, I believe he is the tallest on the team so would need the large windspan to keep himself in flight.

Watching BOTP as a kid, I was aware that Tiny was meant to be an owl, and that Mark and Jason's visors were shaped like birds of prey, but I never went any further than that, that I can recall.

My memories of BOTP are, sadly, very patchy, but the two episodes that I can distinctly recall are Galaxy Girls and Race Against Disaster -both prominently featuring Jason, go figure.
