"Dedicated" Fics and Feedback

I hope no one would be offended by this little thread.

Okay...I'm pretty sure at one time or another you have written a fic which you have dedicated to someone. It could be a friend. It could be a total stranger whose fics or fanarts have inspired you.

I must admit that I usually post my fics in a yaoi fanfic/fanart site called "Y! Gallery", and the people there are just so nice. Dedicated fics and fanarts are graciously accepted by the recipients.

But it wasn't the case when I posted my first Gatch fic. I have to be honest enough to say that I felt pretty let down that my gift fic was unappreciated.

Now, I would like to know how would you feel if the person you dedicated the story to did not send you a reply or feedback?

Oh that's just awful, Rory...I can imagine you would feel terrible...do you know for sure that the person you've dedicated the fic to has seen it? Are they a yaoi/slash fan, too?

Actually, I emailed them about it. Yes, they are yaoi/slash fic writers and fanartists. Oh well. I'm just assuming that the story is not the kind they like. But...well...it's still rather disappointing. I'm glad some people liked it in Y! Gallery though. But still...

No, but she responds to people who write to her. I actually emailed her but she never replied. I posted it April 9, so it's been quite a long time.

I still have my apprehensions because it is a slash story. I'll see if I can post it tomorrow. I have an interview to do for a breast cancer article today.

And, no, it's not really that I need love. Maybe just a simple acknowledgement, like a "Thank you" would do.

Posted by clouddancer on 27-04-2008 at 23:04:

Rory, perhaps if the person does not know you, has not spoken to you before, they do not know how to respond. Or what kind of response you want.

The other posibility, perhaps they have not checked that particular email account in a while. I know I have at least one account I forget to check regularly.

I have one of those... The last time I checked it there was snow on the ground! Sad1

ITA about the Thank you, Rory. Now matter how good or bad a fic is, and whether or not it is to someone's personal taste, if you put that much time and effort into something then the person should at least say Thank You.

To answer your original question, I have written fics for a few people on this board (requests) and AFAIK they have always appreciated them. At least, that's what they tell me! ROFL 2

And do you remember the password to get into that account now. When I depart from work/school for two months over the summer not checking my emails for that account I forget my login and password. Same applies to remembering the password to my work network system.

Clouddancer reminded me that I'm late for my interview. Waaaah!

I'll be back tomorrow to reply to everyone AND post the infamous slash fic.

I cheat. When I know I'm likely to forget passwords or username, which has happened, I add it to a text file on the laptop. When I first got my email account in '99, it was a weekly event to click the little 'forgot password' link. So I got a clue! Programming

I have learned to do that as well. Although I have it in a word document hidden in nested folders on my computer.

Well .... I have bank account numbers in there as well. Something I learned from my father when he was an executer of a will. If you leave numbers and passwords around it makes things easier. You just do not want to make it obvious that they are there. IYKWIM.
