Big Grin Am I too old to be a Gatchamaniac?

Hello,

Just been lurking for a couple of months, but only now found the courage to register.

Short intro...I'm Rory (don't let the name fool you. I'm female) and I live in the Philippines. I was a huge fan of BotP in the mid-70s...when I was still in elementary school. I was such a HUGE fan that I even managed to correspond with Mark's dubber Casey Kasem for half a year. I'm in my mid-40s right now, but I'm still pretty much addicted to it, judging from the fact that I'm watching reruns of Gatchaman, even if it's dubbed in the local language of Tagalog. Would've wanted to watch it in Japanese though.

Anyway, nice to see that Gatchamania is still very much alive and well. I'm expecting to see a surge in the fandom once the CGI movie comes out.

Thank you very much and glad to make your acquaintance!

Sincerely,
Rory

PS I'm really tempted to post some stories here, but alas, I write only slash, so I'm still apprehensive to do so, although I did get to post one fic already in the Gatchaman Fan Fiction Archive.

Welcome Rory. Beer

I am sure the Eagles will be glad to see you on the board, considering that brings up their numbers.
Watch out for Met ... he will want to introduce you to the Rubber room.

Ah, finally another Eagle has come out form lurkdom. If I have done already Rory, then welcome and glad that you have posted as us three Eagles, me, Hino and Damieon are a bit lonely among all the Condors and Swans.

I think BOTP was the first programme that all of us who were growing up in the 70s and I am glad that you got in contact with Casey Kasem as he's one of my fav voice actors.

As for watching Gatchaman in Japanese, it's pretty good, though I can't read all the subtitles as it's quick but the American voices are just awful in the series, similar tot he OAVs which is again better sounding in Japanese than in English.

Hopefully the CGI film will be not only damm good to look at, but the voices are brilliant.

Oh and don't mind me, the only thing you can bribe me with is beer and plenty of it and don't worry about paying for it, just say that the Swans can put it on the Eagle's tab Lol.

And finally, you aren't too old for Gatchaman or BOTP.

Hello, Clouddancer!

Errr...are you telling me the Eagles are that few? Maybe I should haul my nephews and niece here as well. Oh, one of my artist friends is an Eagle fan too, but she's too busy with her boyfriend right now. Roll

Rubber room??? Sounds scary!

Nice to meet you!!

Hello, Metaliant!

You mean the Eagles are REALLY that few? Now, I'm more convinced that I should get my nephews and niece back here. I must admit that I'm really not a fan of Jun though. Most of the females I know don't like Jun, although the guys love her. The artist of the BotP comic books Wilson Tortosa is a fellow countryman and my friend told me that he always draws Jun in the Komicons we have here. I intend to harass him for a Ken pic when I go this year.

Casey was a wonderful guy! At that time, he was so pleased to find out that someone appreciated his work as a voice actor. It seems voice actors don't get the kind of attention they really deserve. I used to imagine Mark doing American Top 40. Casey was tickled pink when I told him that.

I really do wish I could watch all three seasons of Gatchaman in Japanese. But ordering the DVDs from here is way too expensive for me.

Thank you very much for saying I'm not too old. I was afraid of being thought of as a Geriatric Gatchamaniac. Urk!

Nice meeting you!!!

Posted by clouddancer on 26-04-2008 at 22:38:

Unfortunately as Met says we only have 3 who post regularly.
we have another couple who come and go.
Otherwise the rest disappear very quickly, not sure why though, everyone is very friendly here, we love sharing caked

Do not think of yourself as a Geriatric Gatchamaniac, I think you will find most of us are in a similar situation as you.

Oh, okay...Let's see if I could post some stuff soon. I'm pretty notorious for writing long stories. My friends have been nagging me to learn to write short.

Yippee! And I thought I was the only middle-aged fan here.

Welcome Rory! Wave2

I think that on this board we're all addicted to Gatchaman. I keep watching it over and again.
I agree with you Met. Japanese version sounds better than American.
I think that dubbing on BOTP was much better then on the ADV version.

Nah, the Rubber Room ain't scary, but it's just mad and soft, so you can't hurt anybody or break anything, except custard pies of course.

As CD says, there's only 3 regular posters and couple who come and go, so if you want to get any Eagle fans here, please help yourself, although watch out for Amy, who isn't exactly a Eagle fan but who is a Ego fan (Ego is from Gatchaman Fighters series) but also like the Condor.

Welcome, Rory! No, you're not too old -you'll find that lots of us here watched BOTP in the 1970s. I did!

Posted by Springie on 27-04-2008 at 00:43:

I'm a 70's girl, too! Rory, you're in the right place! And we're always happy to have another eagle around! You know, Jun is my favorite character ( I always wanted to *be* her)...only because I had mad crushes on both the Eagle and the Condor and could never choose...and she can kick butt! But I tend to crush on the Eagle just a wee bit more, I think...Luvu1 Eagle

welcome

That's what brought me out of the shadows. I wasn't confident at all that I'd like it. I had some pretty lukewarm experiences with other places. I'm glad I took the plunge! Bounce2

I had lurked on a few of sites before i officially took the plunge here.
I am not sure waht brought me out, probably because everyone was so friendly and I did not see any arguing going on.

Either that or it was because I was interested in what was going on in the rubber room .... which I could not see as a lurker/non member. Pleased
