Sad news...

After a long battle with kidney disease (4 years longer than she had been given by the vet to live) Sugar was put to sleep on Friday. We believe she had a stroke as she couldn't walk, and seemed that she couldn't see suddenly.

RIP Sugar You will be missed!

Sorry to hear of your loss Kimi... Losing a family pet is tough. I've had to put one down myself and found this poem to be of comfort. May it help you now too.

unknown author on this poem.......

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.
Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together,
but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group,
flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet,
so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I too am sorry for your pet loss Kimi, I know how it feels all too well.
If you think it may help there are forums for people who recently lost a pet out there. They helped me.

Thanks so much everyone! I apreiciate it! Huggles

As for being a "gentle soul"--I'll always remember when she went "Xena Warrior Princess" on my throat and just about TKO'd me! LOL!

She was DH's Grandma's cat and she had her declawed. But she could punch!

Huggles Kimi! The loss of a pet is always heartbreaking, but moreso when it's a pet you've had most of your life.

It's probably the one loss that most people can identify with.

Both you and Sugar are in my thoughts and prayers - and always remember that Sugar will be there waiting for you when it's your time as well.

Funnily enough, I find the most cnosolation from Terry Pratchett (and I'm going to paraphrase here as my copy of the book "Reaper Man" is with mum in Mackay at the moment) in "Reaper Man" when he said that a person (and I consider animals in that too) cannot truly be said to have died until the last ripple from their last action has dissappeared.
