Have been sooooo out of the loop anime wise..

We watched Castle in the Sky few nights ago. Sweet and tender. Spirited Away was good, too.

Ok. *opens up Newtype anime magazine*

I haven't seen some of these, but here are some that are recommended by Newtype that I think sound especially cool.

Chrno Crusade
Final Fantasy: Unlimited (Have seen some, art: bad, humor: hilarious)
Pretear (first episode is cute)
Samurai Deeper Kyo (sounds very cool, gonna check it out ASAP)
Also watch for an anime movie of the Counte of Monte Cristo, currently in production. Sounds *really* neat.

If you want, I can look a little bit more at what's coming out soon. *sigh* I wish I had more money...

Newtype is a really great magazine, and, for what comes with it, is fairly reasonable. They give all sorts of reviews on recent and upcoming anime, and include a DVD with the first episode of a new anime, a poster, and *tons* of reviews. I have found it very addictive.

Some I have seen, but are older:
Ruruouni Kenshin (yeah, it's out in the states *now*) I am so getting the uncut DVDs - have first two arcs on tape

Slayers - this is by far the most hilarious anime series I have ever seen. Period. Plus, you can pick up in any series on any episode and still be ok, because most of the plot is in the last 5-6 episodes or so. Have seen most of 1st season, and last 13 episodes of Next.

Iria - cool art, cool guns, lots of violence Warning to parents: there is some nudity, but if you let your kids play with Barbie (and change Barbie's clothes), they'll be just fine.

Like, Imi, most of the stuff I've seen has been on Cartoon Network. Though not so much on the Yugioh, though it does appear to be increasing in the "plot" department. Favorites there: Rurouni Kenshin, YuYu Hakusho, Inuyasha, Witch Hunter Robin (when I'm in the mood), and...some others that I can't remember.

Samurai Deeper Kyo is pretty good! Kyo/Kyoshiro is certainly an interesting character. Talk about split personality!

I don't think I can wait for my next paycheck...Aaaaahhh! Why isn't it payday?! Seems like it would be really good. Thanks for the recommendation!

pay day? What is that?

Is that...that mythical day where you are supposed to get money?

Apparently Flash and I are supposed to have one of these every week.....but.... It all disappears.

Like that sock in the laundry....Your pens in the office...Or that elusive lighter when you need a ciggie.

*cues up the Twilight Zone music*

Anime...anime..... ummm... DON'T watch the new and *scoff scoff* improved Astroboy.

Justice League rocks...not that's it's really Anime...but hey...it is inked....and has the FLASH in it!!

I watched Perfect Blue the other day. Yeah it's an oldie, but Dayum, it's pretty damn good!

Flash downloaded some of that Hentai stuff on Kazaa...Poor cherub, thought he was downloading plain old anime.... Didn't he get that deviant grin when he found out otherwise... *shudders* icky icky

*sighhs* I've been out of the Anime loop too long... Serves me right for boycotting anything "toon" during my one woman strike against canon.

SO...yes, get Perfect Blue! It is a suspenseful and trippy watch!

Well, meager pay days exist, especially when it's technically federally paid (work study). The government officials think it's funny to watch us beg and plead for our minimum-wage hourly wages. They know it gives us hope that we'll actually *make* money when we're "grown up."

Then they laugh harder when we realize that we now have to spend money on things like groceries, laundry, etc. In all reality (ew, hate that word), I'll probably end up saving the paycheck for those things. Drat. But I can still pretend, can't I? Puppydogeyes

Dontcha love being a "Responsible and Productive Member of Society" Elvin! *hehe*

Posted by Elvin Ruler on 03-05-2004 at 03:32:

Hmmm...now that you mention it...

...

...

no, not particularly. It really, really stinks when you think "oh, I can buy some anime/cd/game" and then you realize "oh. I need to buy shampoo/deoderant/food." Hmm...I could always shave my head, I guess...but then I'd spend just as much money on razors. Dreadlocks? Nah.

Drat. Guess I'll just have to separate my money into a larger "needs pile" and a sadly smaller "wants" pile. it'll take longer, but maybe if I try to do this "budget" thing, I'll get it right.

That still doesn't erase the memories of me being able to spend an entire (once in a while) paycheck from babysitting or substituting on the organ for a church everynow and then on fun stuff. Ah, the memories of just 2-3 years ago. They seem so far away. Frown

But, summer is coming! Along with moving back in with parents! Which means they buy groceries! Hooray! Jumping

You guys would go NUTS over these two titles:

Texhnolyse and Yukikaze.

Yukikaze is out of the Gonzo stable so it features damn fine graphics and a fabulous, fabulous story. Despite what you might read, it is *not* an animated Top Gun, though it does have the most awesome, jaw dropping aero scenes you'll ever see. Ever.

Texhnolyse is a grim, but very touching story that really shows up the ugly side of human nature; uses unconventional story telling methods, prefers images and sound over dialogue.

Gundam Wing and Gundam Seed are always entertaining.

Try some Korean animation with Wonderful Days - it is absolutely the best animation out there right now, no arguments. The best. Has the most chilling operatic conclusion (I mean literally, they're singing opera at the end - totally engaging)

Hellsing is the best story I've encountered for years about Vampires - you will ADORE it! Only 13 episodes too. You will love Alucard, so sexy, yet not a pretty boy!! Once again, from the mad people at Gonzo. A+

For yaoi lovers, Angel Sanctuary and Fake. Ok, I think Fake is really boring actually, but hey, if you're a die hard yaoi...Angel Sanctuary isn't the best either (nor is it strictly yaoi) but it's better than Fake and it has lots of demons, devils, angels and the like fighting each other - lots of supernatural stuff. Oh, there's the odd bit of incest and religious controversy as well. Actually, the main characters are incestuous, so I guess it's not just the 'odd' bit now is it? *grin* Ooo...am I allowed to say that?

Read about them here:
